You know, I sweat really fast especially on my neck, chest, and forearms, so I am easily dehydrated. That’s why I always find a way to get some cold drinks wherever I am. And I just come to realize that I had made a list of “thirst-quenching” and easily accessible beverages I more-often-than-not purchase in the metro today. Check this out.
7-Eleven BIG UHAW
Who’s in great thirst? Big Uhaw might help you.
“Big Uhaw” means Big Thirst. It is the Big Gulp version in the Philippines. This 7-eleven’s 32-ounce drink is like an answered prayer to any thirsty human being in the planet. The catch, you’ll get a chance to choose from the store’s array of drinks. 7-Eleven Philippines offers you Coca Cola products and Del Monte juices (pineapple and pineapple-orange combined).
G Recommends: Try iced cold Pineapple-Orange Big Uhaw. “Quenchingly” refreshing!
Siomai House GULAMAN
Riding MRT? Who would not notice Siomai House food cart in every terminal? That “pantawid-gutom” (subsistence hungry) snack is making name. It is simple; all you need to do is order 4 pieces of Siomai and a Gulaman drink. Apart from the delicious Siomai, it’s the Gulaman that completes the meal.
Gulaman (Sweet Grass Jelly Drink) is a staple drink amongst Filipino seen and sell in almost every street of the country. A cold Gulaman will only cost you 10 pesos. It is the fastest and most accessible thirst-quencher for busy commuters nowadays.
G Recommends: Never confuse Siomai House to Master Siomai. They may look completely similar but Siomai House offers better “everything”.
Virgin LIME
Many Filipinos misjudge Virgin Cola products as another low quality and “pang-masa” (colloquial) provincial soda drinks like Sparkle, Sarsi, etc. But it is actually a UK-based soda with a promising taste for a Coca-cola nation like The Philippines. Virgin products are sold in limited areas of the country particularly in provinces.
I first encounter Virgin in Tanay, Rizal province, and I must say among the three flavours: Cola, Orange and Lime, it is the green-bottled Lime that thrills my taste buds. I describe it as a combination of Sprite and Mountain Dew – Thirst-quencher at its finest.
G Recommends: Ask the vendor not to put the soda in plastic. The iced-cold bottle while sipping it is the perfect experience.
Potdog RED ICED TEA
As it define itself, PotDog serves freshly cooked, unique, high quality and affordable snack foods. From Fish balls and Kikiam to Siomai and Nuggets, which can be served with Garlic Rice.
But what’s truly special is their Iced Tea drinks. They offer green and red iced tea. But it is the Red Iced Tea that is exceptional. I find it too simple to be great. It plays between blandness to sweetness. It is like Gulaman’s counterpart, but it is Iced Tea.
G Recommends: Do not “over-ice” the drink for it will taste slightly mild from its original flavour. 3 tube ices are perfect. For better satisfaction, make sure it is served cold already even without ice and always purchase in large container.
G Point: You don’t need to be scientific or well-researched to fight thirstiness. It is simple, drink whenever you’re thirsty wherever you are.
