All because it's BED WEATHER!

It’s raining hard. There’s a typhoon. No classes. You’re stuck at home. You can’t go to work. Or it’s a weekend. You’re a lazy bone.

In short, it’s a “bed weather”. What to do? Check this out.

MOVIE

Check all your movie DVD collections or downloads. Either you watch your favourite films for the Nth time, or finally convince yourself to watch the “panget daw yan”, or “eh panget kaya yan” or “ayoko ng ganyang pelikula” films on your collection, again. I’m sure you’ll be too lazy to go out and face flood waters, to buy Di-Bi-Di or wait for another download just to get a new movie. No choice?

G Recommends: To make the feeling a little lighter, compliment your marathon with your favourite “chichirya”. Buy at your favourite “sari-sari store” (well, perhaps that’s nearer than buying DVD). Try the mini packs of mixed nuts like Ding-dong, Boy Bawang and all the TV show-inspired “chichirya”like Mutya, Green Rose, etc. Why not!

INTERNET

This is the perfect time to bring back memories. And the most accessible place to do that (apart from your mind) is the Web. Check your previous accounts – Friendster (Oops, they already reformatted na pala), your MySpace, Multiply, Flickr, old Yahoo! Mail or Groups, or your previous Blog sites. I’m sure some of it you already forgotten the password – but you’re insistent, trial and error, sige, until you really can’t open it.

Reread your old blogs – Am I mature enough today compared to my old blogs? For sure you won’t forgive yourself for having bad grammar and choice of words before.

Now, check your past photos– you’ll be amaze how smoother your face now (because you learn how to ‘make-up’), or you’ll kill yourself for that “baduy porma” you had and “chaka” pose you did.

Then, you start to recall people – “Siguro bakla/tibo na ‘to ngayon”, “Ilan na kaya anak niya ngayon?”, “Wow, nasa abroad na pala siya”.

Good thing, there’s Facebook, at least we are updated, in a way by our Elementary, High School, College classmates, ‘Orgmates’, Previous works’ friends.
G Recommends: Since you’re already online. Google your name! Either you try with your complete name or your nickname plus surname, or your nickname alone, whatever. That’s the simplest way to reminisce your stuffs on the net. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the results. But if you’re name’s too common, never expect much.

TELEVISION

Grab that remote control. Switch on your TV set. Browse and browse and browse. Watch and watch and watch. Then you switch it off. What did you realize? I explored all the channels.

You now understand why kids like Ben 10 of Cartoon Network. You are surprised, there’s still Powerpuff Girls. Then, you chased almost all Tom and Jerry mini episodes.

You compared CNN to BBC to Al Jazeera and waited for their news reports and updates on the Typhoon that hits The Philippines. You are suddenly proud.

You are now updated with music and music videos. And savor gourmet food because of various cooking and travel shows.

You were amazed on the massive crab-catching in Deadliest Catch of Discovery Channel; you waited how the crocodile and snake hunt its prey in Animal Planet.

Then the biggest surprise, you actually found time watching foreign channels like Arirang, CCTV, and other Indian shows, and French/Spanish news programs. "Akalain mo!"

G Recommends: Don’t confuse yourself on what to watch first. Make a schedule. Refer to cable channel or program guide. Jot down show schedules whenever it appears during commercial gaps.

DRINKS

It’s cold – the best time to serve hot drinks such as coffee, chocolate or tea. But let’s make it different. Be more inventive, or should I say adventurous. Make your own Cafe Mocha. All you need is MILO sachet, and a choice of 3-in-1 coffee sachet among: Nescafe, SanMig or Kopiko. Try these three combinations: Milo-Nescafe, Milo-SanMig, or Milo-Kopiko on a hot cup of water without adding sugar or anything. Try it for yourself.

G Recommends: The best combo is the Milo-Kopiko tandem, and the least is the Milo-Nescafe (for me). Never forget to share it with your “kasambahay”. Expect them to say, "Ano yaaan? Ano'ng lasa nyaaan?"

FOOD

You are now hungry. There’s "kanin" in the rice cooker, ok. You open the fridge and all you see are frozen meat, fish, spreads (without bread) and eggs. Then, you open the cupboard; you see cereals (without milk), canned goods like sardines, etc. You don’t want to cook any heavy meal but you’re hungry. Again, you can’t go out to eat because you’re damn lazy. “Bed weather nga di ba?” Dont worry, I have an interesting and easy recipe for you.

Get those eggs on your fridge, and canned sardines in the cupboard. Open the sardines then crush its meat together with the sauce (make sure to remove the 'boney' part in the middle of the fish for best result). Heat the pan, put the crushed sardines and let it simmer. Then, beat the egg on the simmering sardines and mix it until well done. Don't forget to season it with salt. Presko! You now have a- Pinaghalong itlog at dinurog na sardinas na mukhang tortang mali ang pagkakaluto! Serve it with rice. Make sure to re-heat the rice.

G Recommends: Best served with iced-cold regular Coca-cola. Not diet, not zero. Ahh! *burp*

ROOM

Remind yourself again that summer had just ended and accept the fact that it’s already a cold season. Go. Find your favourite sweater or jacket (or even shawl) on your closet. Wear it. (Don’t forget to make “pagpag” it) Switch on your air-con or put your electric fan on its strongest level. Feel the breeze. Feel the frostiness. The combination of Typhoon gust and your own-made wind. Then, lie down on your bed or couch. Feel the coldness of your bed sheet, your pillows. Isn’t it wonderful? Then, touch your cheeks, its cold. Oh, how I wish I have that cold smoke coming out my mouth. Ahhh! Ok. Enough.

G Recommends: Nothing. That’s just the best experience, right?

G POINT:  Bed Weather is sometimes the Best Weather. Enjoy!

SINO'NG UHAW? (Who's Thirsty?)

You know, I sweat really fast especially on my neck, chest, and forearms, so I am easily dehydrated. That’s why I always find a way to get some cold drinks wherever I am. And I just come to realize that I had made a list of “thirst-quenching” and easily accessible beverages I more-often-than-not purchase in the metro today. Check this out.

7-Eleven BIG UHAW

Who’s in great thirst? Big Uhaw might help you.

“Big Uhaw” means Big Thirst. It is the Big Gulp version in the Philippines. This 7-eleven’s 32-ounce drink is like an answered prayer to any thirsty human being in the planet. The catch, you’ll get a chance to choose from the store’s array of drinks. 7-Eleven Philippines offers you Coca Cola products and Del Monte juices (pineapple and pineapple-orange combined).

G Recommends: Try iced cold Pineapple-Orange Big Uhaw. “Quenchingly” refreshing!

Siomai House GULAMAN

Riding MRT? Who would not notice Siomai House food cart in every terminal? That “pantawid-gutom” (subsistence hungry) snack is making name. It is simple; all you need to do is order 4 pieces of Siomai and a Gulaman drink. Apart from the delicious Siomai, it’s the Gulaman that completes the meal.

Gulaman (Sweet Grass Jelly Drink) is a staple drink amongst Filipino seen and sell in almost every street of the country. A cold Gulaman will only cost you 10 pesos. It is the fastest and most accessible thirst-quencher for busy commuters nowadays.

G Recommends: Never confuse Siomai House to Master Siomai. They may look completely similar but Siomai House offers better “everything”.

Virgin LIME

Many Filipinos misjudge Virgin Cola products as another low quality and “pang-masa” (colloquial) provincial soda drinks like Sparkle, Sarsi, etc. But it is actually a UK-based soda with a promising taste for a Coca-cola nation like The Philippines. Virgin products are sold in limited areas of the country particularly in provinces.

I first encounter Virgin in Tanay, Rizal province, and I must say among the three flavours: Cola, Orange and Lime, it is the green-bottled Lime that thrills my taste buds. I describe it as a combination of Sprite and Mountain Dew – Thirst-quencher at its finest.

G Recommends: Ask the vendor not to put the soda in plastic. The iced-cold bottle while sipping it is the perfect experience.

Potdog RED ICED TEA

As it define itself, PotDog serves freshly cooked, unique, high quality and affordable snack foods. From Fish balls and Kikiam to Siomai and Nuggets, which can be served with Garlic Rice.

But what’s truly special is their Iced Tea drinks. They offer green and red iced tea. But it is the Red Iced Tea that is exceptional. I find it too simple to be great. It plays between blandness to sweetness. It is like Gulaman’s counterpart, but it is Iced Tea.

G Recommends: Do not “over-ice” the drink for it will taste slightly mild from its original flavour. 3 tube ices are perfect. For better satisfaction, make sure it is served cold already even without ice and always purchase in large container.

G Point: You don’t need to be scientific or well-researched to fight thirstiness. It is simple, drink whenever you’re thirsty wherever you are.
